# JumpstartMD review

A California clinic network that prices the act of joining and leaves the medication to be priced after the clinician visit.

## The verdict

JumpstartMD advertises a $379 program start with a limited-time discount beside it, and that start fee is all the public site prices, because the medication itself carries no published figure anywhere.

JumpstartMD is a medical weight-loss practice with fourteen California locations and online visits for California residents, and it also runs menopause, low-testosterone and vitamin therapy programs out of the same clinics. Its GLP-1 shelf names Wegovy, oral Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic and Mounjaro, and the FAQ adds that compounded prescriptions can be filled through a partner pharmacy when a provider judges them appropriate.

1. ## Who writes the prescription, and what do they see?

The first visit is with a health coach who collects biometrics, and only after laboratory work does a member sit down with a clinician, who discusses medication options and may prescribe if the member is a candidate. Later visits alternate between clinicians and health coaches, and the practice suggests weekly visits, which it calls the route to optimal results.

Most of the model is the visit itself: the practice suggests seeing a clinician or coach every week, prices membership by how often a member meets the team, and takes payment at the time of service. A PPO member with out-of-network benefits who attends at least two weekly visits a month can have claims filed on their behalf, though reimbursement is not guaranteed and HMO and Medicare plans are excluded.

2. ## What happens when the dose goes up?

Dose changes happen at the weekly or near-weekly visits where the team fine-tunes the program and adjusts medication, which puts a person in front of every step up through the escalation months. What those steps cost is another matter, because medication is billed apart from the membership and its price is never published.

3. ## What the price includes

The $379 start fee is the regular figure and the discounted one changes as offers run, so neither is a rate for treatment. Medication costs are not included in membership fees, in the FAQ's own words, and membership pricing itself depends on visit frequency, so a buyer cannot price six months of care from the site. For a Californian with a PPO the out-of-network claims service may bring some of that back, but the practice guarantees no amount.

4. ## What it claims, and what it cites

The brand products are FDA-approved, with [Ozempic](https://thisglp.com/research/semaglutide-cochrane-review) and Mounjaro approved for type 2 diabetes rather than weight loss, while the compounded prescriptions filled through PerfectRx are not FDA-approved or reviewed by the FDA before dispensing. Which of the two a member receives is decided by the clinician after the visit.

## Where it holds up, and where it does not

- Strength: Face-to-face care at fourteen California clinics
- Strength: Compounding pharmacy partner named in the FAQ
- Strength: Brand and compounded options both offered
- Strength: Out-of-network claims filed for PPO members
- Limitation: Medication is priced only after joining
- Limitation: Membership price depends on visit frequency
- Limitation: California residents only
- Limitation: The start-fee discount changes with the offer

## What the evidence says about this kind of treatment

The assessment above is about JumpstartMD. These are about the drugs it sells, and they are traced to the primary literature.

Right for

A Californian who wants weekly in-person check-ins while starting a GLP-1, and who has a PPO or the budget to pay per visit.

Wrong for

Anyone outside California, or a buyer who needs a monthly medication figure before booking a first visit.

## The evidence behind what JumpstartMD prescribes

These studies examine the medicines, not this provider. Results with approved products do not establish the quality or effectiveness of a seller’s compounded formulation.

- [Cochrane Review of Semaglutide for Obesity: 18 Trials Graded](https://thisglp.com/research/semaglutide-cochrane-review)

A 2025 Cochrane review pooled eighteen randomized trials. The weight figure is high certainty and smaller than the marketing, and almost everything else is graded lower.

## Frequently asked

Is $379 the monthly cost?

No, it is the fee to start the program, shown against a limited-time discount, and the medication is billed separately at a price the site does not publish.

Does JumpstartMD prescribe compounded GLP-1s?

It can, since the FAQ says compounded prescriptions are filled through its partner pharmacy, PerfectRx, when a provider decides one is appropriate, alongside brand-name options.

Can insurance help with the cost?

PPO members with out-of-network benefits can have claims filed for program costs if they attend at least two visits a month, with reimbursement paid to the member and never guaranteed.
